About the Speakers

Moderator: Matt Hartman, Deputy Executive Assistant Director of Cybersecurity, Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA)

Matt Hartman serves as the Deputy Executive Assistant Director for Cybersecurity at the Department of Homeland Security's (DHS) Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA).

Previously, Mr. Hartman served as the Acting Executive Assistant Director for Cybersecurity at CISA. Prior to this senior leadership position, he was an Associate Director who led CISA's cybersecurity services portfolio, including Continuous Diagnostics and Mitigation (CDM) and the Quality Service Management Office (QSMO). In this role, Mr. Hartman also oversaw CISA's effort to drive adoption of national-level cybersecurity strategy, policy, standards, directives, and requirements across stakeholder groups.

Mr. Hartman has served in various additional capacities, including the Director of Federal Network Resilience, Cybersecurity Counselor to the Secretary of Homeland Security, Senior Advisor to the Assistant Secretary of Cybersecurity and Communications, Director of Strategy Coordination and Management, and Acting CDM Program Manager.

Nasrin Rezai, Senior Vice President and Chief Information Security Officer, Verizon

Nasrin Rezai is senior vice president and Chief Information Security Officer for Verizon. She is responsible for setting information security strategy, policy, standards, architecture and processes. Rezai and her team work across Verizon’s business units to protect its customers and its leading networks.

Prior to joining Verizon, Nasrin held the position of Global Chief Information and Product Cyber Security Officer at GE. She previously served as SVP, Chief Tech. Risk Officer in the Enterprise Risk Management Organization at State Street and as CTO of Security at Cisco Systems.

Throughout her career, Nasrin has promoted engineering and architecture in designing security solutions for large enterprises. She holds a master’s degree in business administration, a bachelor’s degree in information systems, and an Executive Certification from Harvard and Cambridge.

Alex Tosheff, Vice President and Chief Security Officer, VMWare

Alex Tosheff joined VMware in July 2014 as Vice President and Chief Security Officer. Tosheff currently serves as the Chief Security Officer and Global Crisis Management Chair. He is the senior executive leading all aspects of VMware's information security, physical security, and enterprise resiliency across the global organization.

Tosheff is a security industry veteran with over 25 years' experience in leadership and security. Prior to joining VMware, Tosheff was the Chief Information Security Officer at PayPal.

Alissa Starzak, Global Head of Public Policy, Cloudflare

Alissa Starzak is the Vice President and Global Head of Public Policy at Cloudflare, a leading security, performance, and reliability company that is on a mission to help build a better Internet. Cloudflare protects and accelerates millions of Internet properties worldwide, with customers ranging from individual blogs to small businesses to Fortune 500 companies.

Prior to joining Cloudflare, Alissa worked for the US government in a variety of national security positions. Most recently, she served as the 21st General Counsel of the Department of the Army, after confirmation by the Senate. Before her appointment as Army General Counsel, Alissa served as the Deputy General Counsel (Legislation) of the US Department of Defense, advising on legal issues with a legislative or congressional component and managing an office of attorneys responsible for developing the Department of Defense legislative program.

Prior to moving to the Department of Defense, she served as Counsel to the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence and as an Assistant General Counsel at the Central Intelligence Agency's Office of General Counsel. She also worked in private practice in Washington, DC, and clerked for The Honorable E. Grady Jolly, US Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. She graduated from Amherst College and the University of Chicago Law School.
