The following versions of Reason S20 managed Ethernet switches are affected:
- S2020, All firmware versions prior to 07A06
- S2024, All firmware versions prior to 07A06
3.2 VULNERABILITY OVERVIEW
3.2.1 IMPROPER NEUTRALIZATION OF INPUT DURING WEB PAGE GENERATION ('CROSS-SITE SCRIPTING') CWE-79
The affected product is vulnerable to cross-site scripting (XSS), which may allow an attacker to trick application users into performing critical application actions that include, but are not limited to, adding and updating accounts.
CVE-2020-16242 has been assigned to this vulnerability. A CVSS v3 base score of 6.1 has been calculated; the CVSS vector string is (AV:N/AC:H/PR:N/UI:R/S:C/C:N/I:H/A:N).

Daniel Martinez of IOActive reported this vulnerability to GE.
GE recommends that S20 users upgrade to firmware Version 07A06 or higher to fix this vulnerability. Instructions on how to upgrade the firmware and verify its installation are available in the product user’s manual. Upgrading can be done by downloading the upgrade file directly from the GE website.
CISA recommends users take defensive measures to minimize the risk of exploitation of this vulnerability. Specifically, users should:
- Minimize network exposure for all control system devices and/or systems, and ensure that they are not accessible from the Internet.
- Locate control system networks and remote devices behind firewalls, and isolate them from the business network.
- When remote access is required, use secure methods, such as Virtual Private Networks (VPNs), recognizing that VPNs may have vulnerabilities and should be updated to the most current version available. Also recognize that VPN is only as secure as the connected devices.
