Regional Director for Region 5

Alex Joves is the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) Regional Director for Region 5 covering Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio, and Wisconsin. Regional directors serve as the CISA senior leader in each of the agency's ten regions.
CISA leads the national effort to understand, manage, and reduce risk to our cyber and physical infrastructure. Through regional offices and security professionals in the regions, CISA offers a range of cyber and physical services to support the security and resilience of critical infrastructure owners and operators and state, local, tribal, and territorial partners.
Selected as the first CISA Region 5 Director in 2020, Mr. Joves oversees regional efforts to conduct and integrate infrastructure assessments and analysis, facilitate information sharing, provide training and exercises, and support incident response and recovery. This includes mitigating the most significant cyber risks to the country’s National Critical Functions; managing the regulatory chemical facility security program; assisting statewide emergency communications planning; engaging state and local officials to enhance election security; protecting the supply chain during the COVID-19 pandemic; and coordinating critical infrastructure efforts for special events such as the Indianapolis 500, Chicago Marathon, Democratic National Convention, and Republican National Convention. He currently serves on the Chicago Federal Executive Board Executive Committee and FBI Chicago Field Office Joint Terrorism Task Force Executive Board.
A career member of the Senior Executive Service, Mr. Joves is a graduate of the U.S. Coast Guard Academy and The George Washington University Law School. Prior to his federal career, he was an attorney in private sector practice. He brings 27 years of government service to the position, working in the Federal Civil Service and U.S. Coast Guard, including tours in the White House Situation Room, White House Military Office, U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary’s Office, and seagoing, law enforcement, search & rescue assignments in both the Atlantic and Pacific areas. He held leadership positions across DHS with the Principal Federal Official Program, Special Events Working Group, Office of Operations Coordination, Counterterrorism Advisory Board, National Terrorism Advisory System, National Infrastructure Coordinating Center, Chemical Facility Anti-Terrorism Standards, and the Office of Infrastructure Protection.
