Successful exploitation of these vulnerabilities could allow an attacker to write arbitrary project files to a programmable logic controller (PLC) and gain code execution privileges.

3.2.1 RELATIVE PATH TRAVERSAL CWE-23
A zip slip vulnerability in XINJE XD/E Series PLC Program Tool up to version v3.5.1 could provide an attacker with arbitrary file write privilege when opening a specially crafted project file. This vulnerability can be triggered by manually opening an infected project file, or by initiating an upload program request from an infected Xinje PLC. This can result in remote code execution, information disclosure, and denial-of-service of the system running the XINJE XD/E Series PLC Program Tool.

3.2.2 UNCONTROLLED SEARCH PATH ELEMENT CWE-427
A vulnerability exists in XINJE XD/E Series PLC Program Tool in versions up to v3.5.1 that could allow an authenticated local attacker to load a malicious DLL. The potential attacker must have access to the system and sufficient file-write privileges to successfully exploit this vulnerability. If exploited, the attacker could place a malicious DLL file on the system, which could allow the attacker to execute arbitrary code with the privileges of another user's account when running the XINJE XD/E Series PLC Program Tool.

Xinje has not responded to requests to provide mitigations for these vulnerabilities. Users of the affected product are encouraged to contact Xinje Technical Support.
CISA recommends users take defensive measures to minimize the risk of exploitation of these vulnerabilities. Specifically, users should:
- Minimize network exposure for all control system devices and/or systems, and ensure they are not accessible from the Internet.
- Locate control system networks and remote devices behind firewalls and isolate them from business networks.
- When remote access is required, use secure methods, such as Virtual Private Networks (VPNs), recognizing VPNs may have vulnerabilities and should be updated to the most current version available. Also recognize VPN is only as secure as its connected devices.
