Additional Training for the Emergency Services Sector

The Department of Homeland Security as the Sector Risk Management Agency for the Emergency Services Sector, along with other government agencies, provide a wide array of free training programs to government and private sector partners to facilitate the Emergency Services Sector mission.

Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA)

Every day, Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA)National Preparedness takes steps to help people and communities to be more prepared by developing the capabilities needed to prevent, protect against, respond to, recover from, and mitigate against all threats and hazards. Whether we face risks related to earthquakes, cyberattacks, or chemical spills, our goal is shared: safety and resilience.

First Responders and Emergency Managers

Training for first responders and emergency managers is available from the National Fire Academy, Center for Domestic Preparedness, Emergency Management Institute, including independent study courses and resident and field courses, National Domestic Preparedness Consortium, Rural Domestic Preparedness Consortium, Center for Homeland Defense and Security, FEMA Higher Education Program, and Continuing Training Grants.

Individuals and Communities

Training for individuals and communities is available from Organizations Preparing for Emergency Needs, You Are the Help Until Help Arrives, and Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Basic.

Counter-IED Training and Awareness

To reduce risk to the nation's critical infrastructure, the Office for Bombing Prevention (OBP) develops and delivers a diverse curriculum of training and awareness products to build nationwide counter-improvised explosive device (IED) core capabilities and enhance awareness of terrorist threats. Coordinated through state Homeland Security officials and training offices, OBP courses educate federal, state, local, tribal, and territorial participants, such as municipal officials and emergency managers; state and local law enforcement and other emergency services; and critical infrastructure owners, operators, and security staff on strategies to prevent, protect against, respond to, and mitigate bombing incidents.

Active Shooter Preparedness

The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) aims to enhance Active Shooter Preparedness by providing training, products, and resources to a broad range of stakeholders on issues, such as active shooter awareness, incident response, and workplace violence.
