Emergency Services Sector Landscape

Multiple factors may affect the critical infrastructure security and resilience posture of the Emergency Services Sector (ESS). These factors, which influence the current operating environment and associated decision-making processes, stem from environmental, technological, human, and physical causes. As the ESS focuses on protecting other sectors and the public, unique challenges arise in addressing the security and resilience of the ESS as critical infrastructure. The incapacitation of any of the assets, networks, or systems in this sector, whether physical or virtual, could cause significant harm or loss of life, public health issues, or long-term economic loss.
