Description

A program through the University of Texas - Austin Applied Cybersecurity Community Clinic enables students to offer pro bono services to Texas-based community organizations, small businesses, and public sector agencies that cannot access such services on their own or which require augmentation of their cybersecurity teams. Services include: Asset Inventory, Access and Authorization Control, Network Security Configuration, Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR), Vulnerability Scanning, Security Policy Creation. 

Services provided: Cyber risk assessment.

Request Services and Volunteer

  • Criteria to Request Services:
    • Must be a Texas-based nonprofit, small business, or public sector agency or organization.   
    • Strong client candidates are organizations with under 40 employees and little to no formal IT or cybersecurity support. 
    • Must commit 3-6 hours of manpower per week to liaising with the clinic during service semester. 
    • No prior cybersecurity experience required.  
  • Request Services:
  • Criteria to Volunteer: 
    • Student: 
      • Must be a UT-Austin student. 
      • Enroll in two 3-hour credit courses. 
      • Possess proven teamwork skills, an interest in learning and applying the technical aspects of cybersecurity, and a commitment to improving cyber resilience in Texas. 
      • No prior cybersecurity experience required. 
    • Student Mentor: 
      • Must be a cybersecurity professional living and working in Texas and be willing to dedicate 1 hour per week to advise student teams during semester.
