Counter-IED Instructor Led Training

In-Person Training

Instructor-led counter-improvised explosive device (IED) and risk mitigation training is designed to build nationwide capabilities to increase awareness of IED threats. These courses are delivered by subject matter experts in a traditional classroom setting at your location.

Courses are conducted over 1-3 days and applicable to a broad audience of a minimum of 15 participants which includes: 

  • Municipal officials and emergency managers
  • State and local law enforcement
  • Other emergency services
  • Critical infrastructure owners and operators
  • Security staff
  • Public and private sector stakeholders

Counter-IED Instructor-Led Training Courses

AWR-348 Bombing Prevention Awareness Course Provides participants knowledge of general bombing prevention measures that aid in mitigating the impact of a bombing incident.
MGT-451 Bomb Threat Management Planning Provides participants foundational knowledge on the DHS risk management process and bomb threat management planning. It gives participants the opportunity to apply this knowledge to execute a bomb threat management plan.
PER-312 Vehicle-Borne Improvised Explosive Device Detection Provides participants with the knowledge and skills to inspect for, identify and/or respond to vehicle-borne explosive threats successfully and safely.
PER-336 Protective Measures Course Provides participants the foundational knowledge to identify risks and vulnerabilities to a facility, venue or event. Participants will also identify various types of protective measures to mitigate an IED threat and apply concepts introduced throughout the course with hands-on activities.
PER-339 IED Search Procedures Introduces participants to basic, low risk search protocols. It provides participants the information needed to create a search plan for their facility or special event and allows them to perform IED searches of a facility, an area and a route.
PER-346 Surveillance Detection for Bombing Prevention Provides public safety and security professionals fundamental knowledge and skills to recognize and respond appropriately to hostile surveillance at facilities and planned and unplanned events.
PER-927 Introduction to Hostile Surveillance Provides public safety and security professionals with an introduction to threats from hostile surveillance activity related to a facility/system or a planned or unplanned event.

Requirements

  • A FEMA student ID (SID) is required for registration. To obtain a FEMA SID, visit FEMA SID System
  • For in-person training, a local venue with a classroom large enough for registered participants, projector and audio/visual capability, and an area capable of supporting practical exercises may be required.

IACET and IADLEST Logos

The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency’s Office for Bombing Prevention is accredited by the International Accreditors for Continuing Education and Training (IACET) to award continuing education units for its courses.

Select courses are nationally certified by the International Association of Directors of Law Enforcement Standards and Training (IADLEST) for in-service Peace Officer Standards and Training certification.
