Counter-IED Virtual Instructor-Led Training
Virtual instructor-led training courses provide awareness level counter-improvised explosive device (IED) and risk mitigation information. These courses are delivered through an online learning platform taught by experienced subject matter experts in a live format. This format is ideal for individuals who prefer a structured learning environment with scheduled sessions and live virtual instructions.

AWR-333 IED Construction and Classification | Provides participants basic knowledge of IEDs, including their function, components, classifications and how they are constructed. |
AWR-334 Introduction to the Terrorist Attack Cycle | Introduces common steps involved in planning and executing terrorist attacks. The course introduces a model of the terrorist attack cycle that describes the nature of terrorist surveillance, target selection, planning and other activities that occur before and immediately after a terrorist attack. |
AWR-335 Response to Suspicious Behaviors and Items | Serves as an overview of appropriate responses to suspicious behaviors and items. It provides participants general and foundational knowledge to increase awareness of the indicators of suspicious behavior and the basic responses if suspicious behaviors and/or items are suspected. |
AWR-337 IED Explosives Effects and Mitigation | Provides an introduction to the fundamentals of explosives effects and security measures that can help prevent or mitigate these effects. It details the difference between blast, thermal/incendiary and fragmentation effects and describe the destructive consequences of each type of effect on the target. |
AWR-338 Homemade Explosives (HME) and Precursor Awareness | Provides participants foundational knowledge of HMEs, precursor chemicals and the materials and equipment associated with the production of HMEs. |
AWR-340 Protective Measures Awareness | Introduces how to identify and mitigate facility security gaps. This course provides an overview of risks, the DHS Risk Management process and types of protective measures, and considerations for selecting protective measures to mitigate risk. |
AWR-939 Introduction to Bomb Threat Management | Provides an overview of domestic bomb threat data including the delivery, recipients and impact of bomb threats historically and today. Learners are presented with the bomb threat management plan process, elements of a bomb threat plan and the overall impact of bomb threats. |
AWR-940 Surveillance Detection Principles | Provides participants with a topical knowledge and introductory skills to recognize hostile surveillance at facilities and events, and foundational knowledge for planning and responding appropriately. |
AWR-943 Suspicious Activity Recognition for Bombing Prevention | Provides public safety and security professionals with foundational knowledge to identify suspicious activity related to a facility/system or a planned or unplanned event. The course provides an overview of baseline behaviors, operational indicators, materials acquisition and storage, bomb-building activities, elicitation and response. |
AWR-945 Bomb Threat Assessment for Decision Makers | Provides participants foundational knowledge on the assessment and evaluation of bomb threats, related responses and other considerations. The course introduces the participant to types of threats, the threat assessment process and the implementation of a bomb threat management plan. |

Accredited Training

The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency’s Office for Bombing Prevention is accredited by the International Accreditors for Continuing Education and Training (IACET) to award continuing education units for its courses.
Select courses are nationally certified by the International Association of Directors of Law Enforcement Standards and Training (IADLEST) for in-service Peace Officer Standards and Training certification.
